About Us

It all started in 1995 when my wife and I bought a piece of property in Cruz Bay (17B-3 Estate Enighed) almost by accident. Below are organizations that helped us get the land purchased and start thinking seriously about retirement on St John.

USB Solar Grid Complete

USB Solar Grid complete. From left to right:

- PowerFilm R-14 solar roll - 14W
- Tekkeon 3450 MP - 55W battery
- iPhone 3G - 5W battery
- iPad 2 -25W battery

5 hours of full sunlight on the PowerFilm R-14 generates about 70W of power (5hrs x 14W/hr = 70W), which will fully charge the Tekkeon 3450 MP battery. The fully charged Tekkeon 3450 MP will charge both the iPhone & iPad twice from a 10% battery state.

This is a "proof of concept" grid for small and mid sized USB devices like the iPhone & iPad. The "Big Idea" is to work out the logistics of a PV system that would run a small house on STJ (including AC).

Cinnamon Bay Camp - site 47A

Had to move from site 20 to 47A. Big Agnes Emerald Mt SL 2 & ThermaRest NeoAir worked perfectly. 47A is quite a hike up, just past 47 (2009 stay) and one last climb.

Cinnamon Bay site 20

Same site, two different ways of setting it up. Mine is on the bottom, the 82 year old guy that came in after me travels a lot heavier (took him 2 days to set this up).
