About Us

It all started in 1995 when my wife and I bought a piece of property in Cruz Bay (17B-3 Estate Enighed) almost by accident. Below are organizations that helped us get the land purchased and start thinking seriously about retirement on St John.

Contico box locked to tree for 9 years

Back in 2003, David G pushed/slid the Contico (shown below on bottom of stack) through the Streets of St Thomas on it's trip down from Birmingham to STJ.  The plan was to cable lock this 50 gallon box to a large tree on our lot on STJ so we could store tools and other camping gear for the "soon come" build.

Hard to believe that all of this checked baggage was covered by the price of just two regular tickets (David & me).  Policies have sure changed since 2003.

9 years later this is how the Contico looked.  It's in great shape, but had not been opened since a 2005 camping trip.

The lock shown below could not be opened during a 2008 trip.  After several hits with my folding shovel during our most recent 2012 trip, the lock opened and content was remarkably dry and clean.

Below is the small Weber grill that was inside the Contico since 2003.  This "as is" picture, sitting on Ylang Ylang's pool deck,  was straight out of the Contico with out ANY cleaning.

This grill came back to Birmingham with us as checked luggage from our mid August trip, and will spend a few seasons back in Birmingham.  Bottom line - Conticos are FANTASTIC!
