About Us

It all started in 1995 when my wife and I bought a piece of property in Cruz Bay (17B-3 Estate Enighed) almost by accident. Below are organizations that helped us get the land purchased and start thinking seriously about retirement on St John.

Contico box locked to tree for 9 years

Back in 2003, David G pushed/slid the Contico (shown below on bottom of stack) through the Streets of St Thomas on it's trip down from Birmingham to STJ.  The plan was to cable lock this 50 gallon box to a large tree on our lot on STJ so we could store tools and other camping gear for the "soon come" build.

Hard to believe that all of this checked baggage was covered by the price of just two regular tickets (David & me).  Policies have sure changed since 2003.

9 years later this is how the Contico looked.  It's in great shape, but had not been opened since a 2005 camping trip.

The lock shown below could not be opened during a 2008 trip.  After several hits with my folding shovel during our most recent 2012 trip, the lock opened and content was remarkably dry and clean.

Below is the small Weber grill that was inside the Contico since 2003.  This "as is" picture, sitting on Ylang Ylang's pool deck,  was straight out of the Contico with out ANY cleaning.

This grill came back to Birmingham with us as checked luggage from our mid August trip, and will spend a few seasons back in Birmingham.  Bottom line - Conticos are FANTASTIC!

Swim with the Turtles

Great Turtle swim video.  This is what our swim at Maho looked like.

All credit goes to Aquatic Images (D.D'Alberto) & Iprof.  I found this Saltpond Bay Turtle swim on Virgin-Islands-on-Line.com

Dinner with St John’s Real Estate “Rock Star”

Diana Beam (on left in top pic) was kind enough to take us (middle pic below) out to La Tapa for dinner on Tuesday night, 7/31. Renee had the vegetable platter, Diana had the duck special and I had a great tuna dinner.

Diana has joined me for lunch at Caneel’s Buffet (bottom photo) on past trips to STJ.

Ms. Beam and her group @ RE/MAX – Island Paradise Realty – St John have sold more properties in 2012 than any other STJ realtor by far. Diana also sold Presidio Del Mar back in 2011 for a new STJ record high and way back in 1995 she helped us buy our small lot in the Cruz Bay area. She has been a great help & friend to us over the years.

If you want to buy property on STJ, sell property on STJ or sell property for her as an agent on STJ, give her a call or send her an e-mail @ (340) 775-0949 http://www.remaxstjohnrealestate.com/

The link below is for Becky & John’s most recent trip report to STJ (mid July 2012). I have been following their trip reports since early 2010 and the pictures continue to get better & better (they were great in 2010!).

Big Maho Bay Beach - 6 Sea Turtles Spotted

Great afternoon snorkel @ Big Maho. 6 sea turtles spotted during an hour long snorkel. Best sea grass fields @ the far NE end of the beach (walk to the last telephone pole & swim straight out).

Gallows Point Kitchen Rehab in Unit 11 D

Carla showed us this great kitchen rehab in 11D. Island allows for
traffic on both ends. Sink & dishwasher in island so you get a view of Cruz Bay while using both. Large off white tile on floors help to lighten up the entire space. Micro mosaic tiles used at entry in place of a door mat.

America Hill Hike

Hiked up to the top of America Hill this morning. The trail is 0.6 miles & 15 minutes from the enterance of Cinnamon Bay. Take a sharp left at the sign shown below @ the 0.2 mile mark.  Stay to the right near top @ trail splits.  Peak elevation is 520' ASL.

This post was sent via my iPhone @ 400' ASL on the way back down the trail.

Barbara Young Memorial "Foundation"

My favorite Mother in Law (Barbara Young) asks me a few times each year when construction will begin down on the Island. Above is what will be known from this point forward as the Barbara Young Memorial "Foundation". The work has begun! Due to extremely high construction costs, this is all the work that can be completed this year.

Actually, this is my tent camping site near the top of the lot.
Approximate elevation is 255' ASL (about 5' below Ylang Ylang's pool deck level).

8 Point Buck Spotted @ Bottom of 17B-3

Got up this morning to do some work on the lot and was greeted by this fantastic 8 point deer. He slowly walked down the Gut and did not seem the least bit afraid of me.

View From Bottom Half Of 17B-3

Renee @ bottom marker of 17B-3. Best view between 260 & 300 degrees. By looking W/NW, you don't see the most developed portion of STT. Great view since the lot below ours was cleared in early 2011.

First Summer Trip for Renee

2nd day @ Ylang Ylang up on Pocket Money Hill in the early p.m. Great views and super quiet for being so close to town. 17B-3 just to the left of us. Jim Overton has done a fantastic job on these units.
